Today, SBP member Shyamala Rajan, Ph.D., participated in a virtual public hearing held by EPA on August 19-22, 2025 for interested persons and entities to provide oral presentation of data, views, or arguments on “Proposed Rule: Reconsideration of 2009 Endangerment Finding and Greenhouse Gas Vehicle Standards.” Dr. Rajan said that “Climate change is a health emergency that’s already impacting our physical, mental, and economic well-being. The Endangerment Finding of 2009 was based on overwhelming scientific evidence that greenhouse gases contribute to climate change and pose serious harm to human health and the natural ecosystems. That evidence has only become stronger and unequivocal.”
The EPA has a legal obligation to protect public health and the environment. SBP believes that the reconsideration proposal fails that obligation. Dr. Rajan urged the EPA to” instead focus on implementing the greenhouse gas emission standards for vehicles and power plants to ensure a livable planet for all.” The transcripts for all the hearings can be found at the EPA site.
